Types of jewellery tags
The right tag shape depends on the piece and how it is displayed. All our jewellery tags have a fold-over adhesive tail, so the adhesive sticks to the tag itself — never to the metal or stone.

What jewellers print on a tag
A barcode on every piece makes stock-taking, billing and stock reconciliation much faster than handwritten tags. Typical fields are:
- Item code / barcode — scanned at billing and during stock checks
- Gross and net weight, and stone weight where applicable
- Purity — e.g. 22K, 18K or 925 silver — and the hallmark / HUID number if you record it
- Design or style number, size and your shop logo
Because the print area is small, a 300 dpi printer gives noticeably sharper small text and barcodes than 203 dpi. Most jewellery billing and stock software can print directly to a barcode label printer; we help set up the label design so fields land in the right place.
Ribbons and printers for jewellery tags
Jewellery tags are synthetic, so print them with a resin or wax-resin thermal transfer ribbon — wax ribbons smudge on synthetic material. Our own Mynds ribbons come in the 110 mm × 74 m, 0.5-inch core size that fits most desktop printers:

Which ribbon should I use for jewellery tags?
Use a resin ribbon (or wax-resin for some coated tags). Jewellery tags are synthetic, and resin ink bonds to them so prints do not smudge when tags are handled. Wax ribbons are meant for paper labels.
Can you match the tag size I use now?

Can I print tags from my jewellery billing software?
